It's me! It's me! -- Ruthanne, aka "Sandpiper", my oft-times used online nick! (Sorry for the absolutely shameless self-promotion, but I couldn't resist.)

Only instead of living a carefree life skittering from the waves, I'm sitting here trying desperately to clean off my wreck of a desk!

Seriously though, isn't that feathered fella the cutest little sea birdie?

Thanks for the pictures, Kristen. They're always comforting to me. I'm truly glad the two of you are so wonderfully blessed to be able to enjoy God's majestic ocean!

I believe it is a Blogger Gull or Genus Rantis Maximus. ;)

Ohhh, okay, it's Ruthanne. Obviously. ;-)

Ruthanne, I was thinking of you when I posted this one and when I took the pictures of the little guys. They are so cute when running from the waves!

Shane--you nerd. :) You fit right in here.

It's a new morning and I feel bad that I brazenly claimed that picture for my own. I was just having fun but my guilty conscience is making me regret being so obnoxious!

Did you really, honestly think of me when you took that pic? That is vey humbling for me and so sweet of you.

Kristen, you are a gem -- so full of insight and so kind in how you present it. I'm so glad I found your blog through Carmon's!

Have a GREAT day! :)

RuthANNE!!! If I knew your whole name I would type it so you know you're in big trouble. ;-) You better not feel bad about anything...I was teasing you. :)

People who can't be silly are actually not allowed here. So you fit in just fine.

I really did think of you.

Umm... is that bird a snowy plover? JK! We were stationed at Vandenberg in CA two years ago and got to visit all the places you are posting pics of, so I'm really enjoying them. I thought the central coast was beautiful- once I got over the shock of finding out that summer as I knew it didn't exist (b/c of the fog, cool temps., no rain)! There's a good chance for us to be assigned there again in less than two years. I would enjoy it. Thanks for sharing the pictures!

Anne, so are you saying that fog and cool temps are the norm for that area? We still haven't been here a whole year, so I have no idea.

It depends on how close to the coast you are. We lived only a couple miles from the beach between the towns of Santa Maria and Lompoc. But if you go further inland (ex. to Solvang) it is a lot warmer and sunnier. But yes, the fog often doesn't clear til almost noon and would come back around 6 where we lived in the spring and summer and early fall. Our house didn't have air conditioning and didn't need it. I remember only a handful of times over that one summer where it even reached the 80's. During that spring, summer and early fall the temps. were usually between 55 and 70. Everything also turned brown (especially all those beautiful wild green hills)unless they were watered. I don't remember one drop of rain coming down all summer long until the end of October. But the air was often damp and drippy with the fog. It was beautiful once I got used to it though. Just curious- where did you move from and what town are you in now?

Oh yeah, be care of black widow spiders! We had a nice big one living in our garage that the moving guy discovered among our boxes and things. It was HUGE! I think they are pretty common down there. Yikes! :)

Anne--I don't want to put all the details out there, but we moved from South Carolina to Ventura County in July of last year. So we haven't been here a year yet. :)

I understand- gotta be careful these days! :(

Anne, you're right, there likely WAS no rain all summer. There frequently isn't any. In fact if it even sprinkles between Memorial Day and Labor Day people are shocked. (and generally it's dry even longer -- from mid-Mayish till mid/late October).

And THIS year, it's rained, like, every day. I want my money back...CA is supposed to be SUNNY.
